FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why do you use white thread?

Our thread is what binds our clothing together. We use a colourless thread to showcase how one colour connects to another. In life, love binds us together; invisible strings that connect a child’s beating heart to the heart of that child's parent and also to the hearts of those within that child’s community. We wanted to tell a story with our thread, a story of the bonds between colours and the bonds between children and their loved ones.

What is a Nudnik?

A nudnik is an affectionate term for a little rascal.

What is Upcycling?

Upcycling is to reuse discarded objects or material in such a way as to create a product of a higher quality or value than the original. 95% of discarded clothing can be recycled or upcycled. We call this “wise fashion”, every piece has a story to tell.

Why is every garment unique?

Remember when you would gallop to the corner store as a kid, armed with your allowance, ready to invest in a “surprise bag” or two? You knew it was filled with candy, but what those candies were was a mystery. We wanted to infuse that same sense of wonder in our brand. We hope you’ll enjoy opening your Nudnik package, with your child, and reveling over the unique, one-of-a-kind, colour combination!

Why only 3 sizes?

Instead of the typical 7 sizes between birth and three years of age, Nudnik has narrowed that down to 3 sizes. Our sizes were engineered to grow with your child. Our modern basics were designed with raw edges in order to eliminate those unnecessary sizes, allowing your child to wear Nudnik pieces longer. Simply roll or unroll the sleeves and legs as needed!

Why Upcycle?

At Nudnik, our mission is to manufacture with purpose and design for ZERO waste. Each year millions of tons of textile waste ends up in landfill. Only 5% of all the clothes we consume are actually donated. Throw in corrupt working conditions overseas, the harsh repercussions of ‘fast fashion’ manufacturing, and the fact it takes 2,700 liters of water to make a single t-shirt, and you have the second dirtiest industry next to Big Oil. It’s important for us to redefine the concept of “new” so we can begin to create positive change.

Are there any stores that carry your products?

Not just yet, but we have some retail opportunities and future popup shops in the works! Join our mailing list to stay connected and be the first to hear about upcoming events, promotions and news!

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards.

Do you accept clothing donations?

Yes! We are always looking for ways to salvage and upcycle materials otherwise destined for landfill. If you have large quantities of unblemished, gently used scrap material on a one time or ongoing basis, please contact us at info@nudniktoronto.com to start a conversation!

Are you interested in collaborating?

We are always looking for new and innovative ways to collaborate and partner with purpose! Reach out to us at info@nudniktoronto.com to let us know what you’re doing and we can brainstorm ways to work together.

What is Lean Manufacturing?

Nudnik practices “Lean Manufacturing” which is a management philosophy that pursues the continuous elimination of waste in all business processes. It is important to Nudnik to strive for ZERO waste in all facets of our business and to always be searching for better ways to achieve this.

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck?

The most concrete answer to this question was published by the Associated Press in 1988, which reported that a New York fish and wildlife technician named Richard Thomas had calculated the volume of dirt in a typical 25–30-foot (7.6–9.1 m) long woodchuck burrow, and had determined that if the woodchuck had moved an equivalent volume of wood, it could move "about 700 pounds (320 kg) on a good day, with the wind at his back”.
